The Foundation Stage class would like to say a big thank you to everyone who bought one of their cards. As part of their learning, the children designed cards showing pictures of endangered animals. They were really excited to have their stall at the end of the afternoon to sell the cards to parents and grandparents. Thank you for your donations - we have £25 to send to a local animal charity. We will let you know where, once the children have made a decision.

Primary Science Quality Marks have been awarded to 425 nursery, infant, junior, primary, middle, international and special schools this month to celebrate their commitment to excellence in science leadership, teaching and learning. So far, since its national launch in 2010, more than 5000 Primary Science Quality Marks (PSQM) have been awarded, creating a solid foundation of quality science education for over 1,000,000 children.
PSQM is a comprehensive evidence-based professional development programme that effectively develops science leadership, ensuring teachers have the knowledge, capability and support they need to transform science education and shape future generations.
The Primary Science Quality Mark is led by the University of Hertfordshire. Helen Sizer, PSQM Co-Director said: ‘By enabling effective science leadership, PSQM is powering the potential of all children to see the relevance and importance of science in their lives, now and in the future. Schools that have achieved a Primary Science Quality Mark have demonstrated a significant commitment to science leadership, teaching and learning and the profile and quality of science in each accredited school is very high. Science subject leaders, their colleagues, headteachers, children, parents and governors should be very proud.”

Preston 70 Launch
What is the 'Preston 70'? In each year group, throughout the year, the children will be able to borrow 10 specially chosen books to read and share at home. This will hopefully encourage your child’s excitement and engagement in reading. They can read the books themselves, or someone at home can read the book to them. The idea is, that if the children manage to read all 10 books in each year, by the time they leave Preston they will have read all 70! All of the books have been kindly purchased by the Preston Parochial Charity, which we hugely appreciate.

Today the children were taken on a captivating journey filled with humour, yo-yo and magic tricks, puppetry and storytelling. Along the way they were introduced to a cartoon boy named NED who is on a very important mission: to find his mindset. Led by clues and memorable characters, he overcomes Mt. Everest’s toughest obstacles, uncovers inner-treasures on a Caribbean island, and grows his brain while repairing a sputtering spaceship. Throughout the performance, your students discover how to activate their growth mindset to overcome social, emotional and academic challenges.

Year 5 & 6 Annual Residential to Northumberland
Our annual trip started with a visit to Beamish Museum where the children experienced life in a Victorian classroom and took a walk down the disused mine. The children finished day 1 with an evening walk and the chance to burn some energy at the local play park, before heading back to the hostel for one of Mr J's legendary ghost stories.
On day 2 the group headed to Bambrugh Castle and enjoyed rolling around in the sand dunes.
Unfortunately, the group had to cut short their trip to Northumberland but made up for it by heading back out to GoApe at Dalby Forest for the final day of the trip. The children enjoyed a cooked breakfast back in school after a night in their own beds. There were certainly lots of tired children!

EXCITING NEWS - NEW ADVENTURES AT PLAYTIME
We are planning to make our play times even more fun and exciting by introducing Loose Parts Play and we really need some help sourcing resources to enhance our play.
Loose parts are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways. They are recycled materials with no specific set of directions that can be used alone or combined with other materials.
This kind of play encourages imagination and creativity, teamwork and collaboration. It is similar in many ways to some of our popular Outdoor Learning activities such as den-building.

It is lovely having all the children back in school and they do all seem to be very settled and happy, which is great to see.
As many of you won’t have had the opportunity to properly meet your child’s new teacher, we would like to offer you the opportunity to ‘drop in’ and see them on Wednesday next week between 4pm and 5pm.
These sessions will be very informal and you can come at any time during the hour. The teachers will share some information about class routines and the things your child will be learning and you can see the classroom environment and ask any questions that you may have.
If you are not able to come along, then teachers will ensure that your child gets all the information on a sheet to bring home later in the week.

As a school, we have received five fruit trees from a company called "The Tree Council". After a discussion with the children from School Council, it was decided that it would be a lovely idea to creat a School Orchard near our Wildlife Gardeen.
All the children from every class were involved in planting the trees and Mrs Thompson led each planting session. She discussed with the children the benefits of growing our own fruit to eat or use in our cooking lessons.
The children were encouraged to look at the benefits of planting trees to help with climate change and carbon capture.
Beneath the trees, School Council wanted to create wild flower areas so the grass will be allowed to grow longer and bulbs/wildflowers introduced over the years.
Mrs Thompson discussed the benefit with each class of creating habitats and sites for bees and butterflies to visit. The trees are now all planted and each class has responsibility for their care.
