Safeguarding

Our Safeguarding Team

At Preston Primary there is a specialised team to ensure that all pupils are safe and feel safe. The team meet at least once every half-term to discuss vulnerable pupils, audit CPOMS records, evaluate current practice and update policy. The safeguarding team consists of the following members:

Ms Jane Ferguson  Designated Safeguarding Lead

Miss Katie Costello Deputy Safeguarding Lead

The team will seek advice and follow the school safeguarding policy and other linked policies (such as whistle blowing) as appropriate.

Our Safeguarding Governor is Mr Steve Precious

At Preston Primary we believe Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility.  Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children.  We want to work in partnership with you, and discuss with you any concerns we may have or that you may have.  Since the first priority is your child’s welfare, there may be rare occasions when our concern about your child means that we have to consult other agencies even before we contact you.

The East Riding Safeguarding Children Board has laid down the procedures that we follow, and the school has adopted a Child Protection Policy in line with this, for the safety of all.  If you want to know more about our procedures or the policy, please speak to any of the Safeguarding Team.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a police and education early information sharing partnership enabling schools to offer immediate support for children and young people experiencing domestic abuse. Information is shared by the police with a school's trained Key Adult prior to the start of the next school day after officers have attended a domestic abuse incident thus enabling appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.

Domestic abuse impacts on children in a number of ways. Children are at increased risk of physical injury during an incident, either by accident or because they attempt to intervene. Even when not directly injured, children are greatly distressed by witnessing the physical and emotional suffering of a parent.

The providing of this information passed to schools through Operation Encompass, allows the provision of immediate early intervention through silent or overt support. The purpose and procedures in Operation Encompass have been shared with all parents and governors. Further details can be found in our Safeguarding Policy.

At Preston Primary School our Key Adults are the Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher, Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Safeguarding Lead. They will be able to use information that has been shared with them, in confidence, to ensure that the school is able to support children and their families. Information will be shared where it is identified that a child or young person was present, witnessed or was involved in a domestic abuse incident.

We always endeavour to offer the best support possible to our pupils and believe that Operation Encompass is going to be beneficial and supportive for all concerned children and families.
